I just meant if you're a bit nervous, maybe you could do the bulk of the travel with fellow goobers. (Having said that, I have no idea of what state is near to what state in America, or if any regulars on here are near to you, or en route even.) I'm just talking rubbish - sorry.

Ohhh, ok, lol. I'm not sure if anybody will take any connecting flights through Chicago or not. [I do know Brannon is about two states east of me.] And I don't know of anybody else that lives in Illinois neither. No biggie though =) If I gotta go to the dr. for drugs a few days prior, I will, lol.

Airport & Hotel

Postby GeordieGoonie » Thu May 14, 2009 9:29 am

Sorry if you have covered this before... but does Astoria have an airport or do you fly into Portland? If Portland how long is it to Astoria and are there regular coaches to Astoria??

Was also wondering if there are many hotels in Astoria that people can recommend, somewhere half decent where you can get a good Bed & Breakfast deal and maybe evening meal??

I'm still trying to figure out if I can make it but I am going to do everything I can to get over there so would appreciate any help at all. If I can make it over I think I would be looking at staying for at least a week.

I take it this time round more people will be looking at actually staying in Astoria rather than Cannon Beach, then just take a trip to Cannon Beach once there??

I would love to hear where everyone is planning on staying when they get there!

Any help would be great!

Thanks,

Andy

The best plan is to fly into Portland and then drive to Astoria. As far as I know Astoria doesn't have an airport. I think there was talk of one at one time, but I don't know if it's happened or not. The drive to Astoria from Portland is about 2 hours, and once you get out of the city it's a great drive! The scenery is just beautiful. You ever see Star Wars: Return of the Jedi? The forest moon of Endor? Yeah...that's what you'll be driving through on your way to Astoria.

As far as I know a large number of people will be staying in Cannon Beach this time. While Astoria does have most of the film locations, the scenery is (in my opinion) quite better in Cannon Beach. Who doesn't like seeing Haystack Rock outside there window every morning? Astoria is only about 30 minutes from Cannon Beach anyway, so the drive to and from is next to nothing.

Goblin_King and I are planning on renting a house in Cannon Beach for the 25th. We'll figure out which house within the next few months. Then probably some of the people from the boards will bunk down with us. And I'm sure other houses will be rented too. It makes the "hang out" factor alot easier when you've got room to chill. :-)

Sonja, you might want to get opinions on this if you're booking so early. My personal feeling is that we want to be close to Astoria for this one. The Autumn trips are a bit different because we only go to A-town when we want, but everything will be in the big A this time.
Imagine going into town for the day, then having say the concert in the evening, but you know it's an hour round trip if you want to go back to the house to chill for a bit or get changed.
I was thinking Warrenton. But that's just my opinion. And why I suggested getting a consensus. I think the important thing is to have everyone near each other, wherever that is
The above comment is an example to Ron of how I bring nothing to the table

I think we should stay fairly close to Astoria. Warrenton and Gearhart are godd, but there is also Long Beach, WA on the other side of the Columbia.

I get that alot of people will want to stay in or around Astoria. But I like Cannon Beach. I'm going more to hang out with people than to attend all the events in Astoria. I'm sure I'll go to some stuff, but for the most part I want to just hang out with people and walk on the beach.

I'm not going to book a house until probably December or January. I'll throw out a vote to see how many people want to stay in Astoria vs. Cannon Beach. Then I'll decide for sure.

So excited

Postby mrsdelano » Sun Jul 26, 2009 4:51 pm

My friend(s) and I are planning on driving there and making a road trip out of it. we live in Arizona so its gona be a long drive but its going to be awesome! I'm going to buy a brand new memory card and some amazing lithium batteries to make my camera last longer and take a TON of pictures!

The cost for the rental car and gas will actually cost less than the flight for 2 tickets.

Another way to save money if anyone else is planning on driving (which I doubt) we're going to fill a giant cooler with snack food and sandwiches and stuff. Anything that won't go bad or will last for a few hours that way we aren't stopping somewhere to get som food on the way up and the only time we'll stop to eat is if we see somewhere that just looks amazing but is inexpensive. We're also gona stop at a hotel thru priceline and stay the first night of our trip (leaving at least a day ahead) so we're not driving all night long. Although we will definitely be taking turns driving.

If you are going to be replacing 2 AA style of batteries you best getting a couple of those rechargeable CR-V3 Lithium batteries and a car charger.

Postby beedlej00z » Thu Sep 10, 2009 9:35 am

So has anything been solidified for the events next year? I just retruned from the Goon Docks about a month ago. LOVE ASTORIA. Its the best. Really wish I could find work out there so I could move there. lol

Anyways, any info on what commitments has been made would be apprecaited... any chance we can get a discount at that nice Holiday Inn if we book multiple rooms??

Back from the depths of the unknown comes.........THE RETURN OF TROY'S BUCKET! That's right everyones favorite pop punk band is making it's triumphant return in honor of the Goonies 25th Anniversary. A favorite in Southern California for years, Troy's Bucket has shared the stage with bands such as Yellowcard, The Aquabats, Home Grown, Good Riddance, Guttermouth, Underminded, Slick Shoes, Nerf Herder, Ozma & Rilo Kiley, among many, many, many others. They even had a run on the 2003 Vans Warped Tour. After being away for 5 years the time has come again for the Bucket to rise and bring back their fun energetic live show & catchy songs for a whole new audience to hear.

The name is taken from the Goonies wishing well scene: "That's all over the second we ride up Troy's bucket" http://www.troysbucketmusic.com

I've just activated Troy's Bucket account here. Woop!! Welcome aboard guys!! x
