What if ..we start a petition....?? Save the Goonies 2!

Postby theoriginalgoonie » Tue Mar 25, 2003 5:33 am

Hi everyone,

I was thinking about the storyline for the upcoming sequel to the Goonies, and I really think that most fans of the film are against the idea of the central focus of the new adventure being around the original Goonies kids.

I am sure that Spielberg and Donner will still have the opportunity of reading scripts with other storylines, but this Ancient Indian Rocky adventure idea for the kids sounds to me to be too much.

If your thoughts are similar to mine, you will also understand the need of the sequel to not be written intent for a third chapter.

This usually ruins the film in my opinion,(E.G BTTF3 - only appealed to fans, but was a cop out in my opinion and couldn't have held it's own without being part of a tilogy).

It would seem to me to be that those with the power might just be trying to aim the film at a younger audience with money making in mind- Though this is not actually definate, it could well be a possibilty.

I do not want the film to be a cop out, nor do I assume that Speilberg or Donner do, but do they really know or understand their Goonies fanbase???

If they do I am surprised by the current pitching of the possible sequel idea that are floating around on the net.

Though many pople who will watch the sequel having maybe never seen the first, will possibly enjoy the current ideas, I think that it will not outweigh the interest of the fans of the first film.

Also, can the film survive if all the Goonies do not return? Do we think that the film can be a success if the Fratelli's are not involved?
They may say that right now all the actors have agreed to come back, but at this undecided rate, the film still has time to collapse or poeple to give up interest in it, what with the lack of information about it.

These are just some of my thoughts, but I think we have an opportunity to possibly voice our opinions and stop the film maybe going straight to video, or bomb out at the cinema.

If anyone has any suggestions on how you think we can have our voice heard, lets please discuss this and weigh up the pros and cons of the impending sequel storylines.

I just forwarded this website to someone who actually knows Richard Donner. He said they will get a kick out of this. This is too cool not to send around or be seen by the right people.

Dont worry folks.. Gonnies 2 will happen.

Thank you Damian

Hi Damian,

Thanks for reading my message. I'm glad you found it interesting. I am not expecting everyone to agree with my comments, nor do I think that the sequel will be bad, it just depends on who it's target audience will be.

I have my own ideas for it too, like my own manuscript, but sadly WB shot be down straight off as I do not write or work for them. Second of all, I was not allowed permission to write anything Goonies related!!!Doh!

Well, I love my own ideas, as I'm sure all fans do, I just hope that the producers understand what the major elements are that need to go into the production of the sequel. I agree with other fans when they say that they'd rather not have a mediocre sequel, and leave it at the original after all - sorry to sound harsh!.

No offense to the producers or directors, I love their work, I just think that whilst the only rumours floating around the net surround the Rocky Moutain, Goonie parents chasing the 'New Batch', sounds to me like a bit of a cop out. It's like it's a whole new film, with camoes or something.

Anyways, I know that fans have read my earlier message, but you are only the first to reply, so let's ALL tell the production team what INGREDIENTS need to go into making the best sequel storyline ever!!!

Goonies 2?

Postby Spunkmeier » Thu Jun 05, 2003 8:47 am

Hmm... this Goonie sequel... how realistic is this really? There are so many rumours about it, but I think it sounds a bit unreal. Somehow, I just can't imagine a "proper" sequel to this 20-year old kid flick. Will the sequel be a new kid flick for today's kids, or a movie for the grown-up fans of the original?

Is there any reliable information on this anywhere? I truly hope to see this sequel, and to see what the people behind it are able to come up with that is both a proper sequel and not corny at being that.

A Goonies sequel...

Postby Darthdoobie » Wed Jun 18, 2003 12:27 pm

...How about a prequel?

What if Spielberg and Donner followed in the footsteps of Spielberg's bearded buddy and made the next Goonies movie a prequel? Send the current Goonies parents on an adventure. Remember what Brand said in the attic how their parents and grandparents went looking for the treasure? :P

They will only make the movie if they can make money. Hence It will have to be geared towards kids because it was originally a kid flic. I'm guessing, they'll have a new generation of kids along with the original cast. Or as many as they can get. They won't make a sequal just of the old kids because there a bunch of us 80's kids that worship the movie and want to see something happen again. Anyway would it really be that great? Most of the appeal of the goonies for me today, is the fact that I recognize the nostalgia of growing up at that time. The images of the clothing, the video games, the cars, the music. It just brings me back to when I was a kid at that time. It's a period piece. Sure its a neat adventure, but its also a piece of our past that we relive in a sense when we watch it.

I really liked the concept of a prequel, especially since they always commented about previous adventures in the movie...but it wouldnt be worth the attempt if you dont have the same actors...and, personally, i think a sequel would be a failure-maybe not financially, but emotionally. It would be impossible to get the same feeling and few, if any, movies have ever pulled it off properly.
