I bought Never Ending Story today for $8 at the local Wal-Mart. I haven't seen this movie ina bout 20 years! There's something funny I found about this movie, it was another one filmed here in British Columbia, specifically Vancouver.
In this screenshot, you can see the Gastown part of Vancouver. It's from the beginning of the movie where the bullies are chasing Bastion. On the right you can see the steam clock - the only clock in the wolrd that's steam operated. Looks like the guy on the ladder is fixing one of the steam whistles. For more photos of the steam clock, check out: http://www.seegastown.com/clock/clock.htm
In this scene from the end of the movie, on the left you can see the old Woodward's Department Store Building (the one with the big W on top of the antenna). The next tall building to the right of that is the old Province Newsapaper building. The big white inflated marshmallow in the middle is BC Place Stadium. That's where the BC Lions Football team (CFL) plays and that's where the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics are going to be held. Rumour has it that they are going to take the roof off for the Olympic ceremonies.
The wierd looking building behind Bastion and Falcor (with the round top) is Harbour Center Tower (formerly the Sears building) and the round part is known as "The Lookout" - basically it's Vancouver's version of Seattle's Space Needle. For Harbour Center Tower's website, checkout: http://www.vancouverlookout.com/index.html
It seems like every third movie (or TV show) that gets released to theaters was filmed here in BC.
So if any of you that want to do a Never Ending Story Vacation, head to Vancouver!

Thanks for sharing this great info, Barbossa.
As with you, I hadn't seen this movie in 20 years either, but a couple of weeks back, they showed it on Swedish television, so I recorded it.
I guess the Neverending Story has a special place in my heart, as with The Goonies, but after watching it I was pretty disappointed. It's not even near as good as I remembered it to be. Good story, but lousy effects, and acting is pretty mediocre. The Goonies, however, keeps getting better for every time I watch it.
Well, that's my 20c...

I love this movie! My best friend and I used to pretend we could walk through this horse tapestry I had and BOOM...we were in fantasia! (Or Fantastica as they called it in the book:))
Also...I'm wondering if "The Lookout" was also the same one they used in "Cool Runnings" when John Candy's character meets up with his former teammate...hmmmm..I know it was filmed in Alberta though... *runs off to research* _________________

The majority of Cool Runnings was filmed at Calgary's Olympic Park. I can't remember specific scenes, but John Candy probably met up with his teammates at Calgary's Tower: http://www.calgarytower.com/
But honestly I can't remember that scene. There's also a viewing deck on the highest ski jump at the Olympic Park. The facilities manager gave me and my dad a tour to the top of the tall ski jump and all I got to say is, holy s-h-i-t (spell it out like Data), those ski jumpers are nuts! Man is that a drop! Here's the website for Olympic Park: http://www.canadaolympicpark.ca/

GREAT pics, Barbossa! I can't wait to see it on DVD, in all its w i d e s c r e e n glory!
I just wish that they'd make a SPECIAL EDITION DVD with a cast commentary. That'd be SWEET!

One little bit of info to anybody who doesn't already know: the name that Bastian gave to the Childlike Empress in the end was Moonchild (his Dead Mother's name).
Now just a question: what's the deal with Falkor and Bastian flying through the city at the end? Those three bullies can (obviously) see them...but what about everybody else?
