Mikey's BMX Bike Replica

Postby goonies_boy » Tue Jun 14, 2005 7:16 pm

Here are the pics of Sean with the bike I built for the Meet.

Image
I meet him just as he was leaving. He immediately took hold of the handlebars and began riding around the parking lot. I was in such awe that I forgot to snap a ton of photos. He said that he felt like he had gone back to 1985, and how all of them used to ride around Astoria between takes.

It was a glorious time. Thanks everyone.

That is so cool Damon. Do you also have a page for your unbelievable Data outfit and gadgets? It must have taken you months if not years to find every patch!

That's so cool. I was going to ask if anyone had pics of that. Something that just needs to be added to the DVD!

Thank you everybody, glad I could share.

Yes, he did sign the bike on the blue handlebar pad.

Belloq, I am in the process of building a page about the Data outfit and gadgets. It will be up soon.

Fantastic .... Sean unexpectantly dropping by and riding the bike must have been your reward for the hard work in building the thing! ........

goonies_boy, you did a wonderfull thing. I'll bet there are some bicycle magazines that would LOVE to publish the pics and story! .......... I was riding this 24 inch bike in the early and mid '80's. It's a Murray I got at K-Mart. The frame and fork look like Mouth's bike, but his would have been a more expensive model of this bike, without a coaster brake, with chrome handle bars and maybe aluminum rims. Image Image Simalar things are the way the chain and seat stays run the length of the rear drop outs. Huge rectangular rear brake mounting plate, extra long head tube, blue seat, blue front brake and blue brake lever, a big chrome factory nameplate sticker with black letters on it on the downtube that says "Murray" , only Mouth's sticker seems to have more letters and is longer. His top tube has a pad around it, which is why that looks different. What's more 80's than BMX pads? chunkicon I still ride a 24 inch BMX bike, cause they're the most fun bike!

Hey,
So do you still have the BMX similar to Mouth's?

Man this is one thing I WISH I had never got rid of, in fact I don't even think I did get rid of it. I LOVED my BMX in the 80's and had it probably into the 90's too. I guess my folks disposed of it when I got a mountain bike one Christmas.

Mine was silver and red with red pads...*stamps feet* My bike! My bike! I want my bike! I want my bike.

I no longer have it. I was on my own in a studio apartment when I owned that bike. I was there stressed to death trying to make rent, missing my ex real, real bad. My only comforts were fantasy, movies, music. I lived a little south of San Francisco. Noisy and a lot of people. My apartment was across the street from an all night freight loading dock next to the railroad tracks. But on weekends, I was only about an eighth mile away from heaven. I'd ride over the freeway overpass, and out by the S.F. bay. There was a 3 mile dirt loop of levys and canals. The smell of the sea, all kinds of weird birds and creatures. Way out there, I could have been in the middle of the Sahara desert. Me and my bike. The were old shipwrecks. The radio reception was perfect times 10, and I'd miss my ex listening to a series of off brand walkmans, with red LED's. If I was out there after dark, there was a place where I could watch 3 drive in movie screens across a canal. There was also a marina, marinas are the most magical places on earth.

What a description!!

This actually gave me visions of the scene in The Blues Brothers where they're in Elwoods apartment and a train goes by the window everytime it's in the shot.

Good to have you here thumbup *Welcome*

I used to have a black BMX with chrome handle-bars, and black pads on the cross-bar and top bar. It had stunt pegs front and back, but the best thing was the wheels. Black 5 spokes with dice valve caps! Yeah!

Hey BMX, Thanks for the info about your Kmart Murray 24", and wonderful story.
Great... Now I am going to have to go out and build Mouth's bike too. lol

I had started picking apart Data's bike. You never know, maybe I will run across the right frame to build this as well. All of the gadgets would be great fun to collect.

goonies_boy, those two black chevrons on Data's bike's head tube are seen on a particular bike brand, I just can't remember which one. -- You guys might be able find your old bike here- http://bmxmuseum.com/index.php Here's a bike like mine I found there http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/murray/12 and here's an ulta high end version of the same model I found there, both 1983 model Murray bikes. I think Mouth's was a quality in between. http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/murray/56 You could doubtless find the same bike as your old bike on ebay someday, but the shipping is expensive. chunkicon
