Locations From The Gooonies Movie

Goonies
Ecola State Park (entrance)
This long road is the entrance to Ecola State Park, you can peer through the trees and still see the rocks the kids were looking at (barely). It's a little overgrown now, but after 19 years it's still a fun drive/walk/ride.

Andy's High School
Located one block South of the Maritime Museum is the Astoria High school football field. I was surprised to see it still looked exactly the same as in the movie. You can still reinact the faithful scene from the beginning of the movie, like we did above. There's my wife running across the field just like Andy, what a dream.

Thunderbird Motel
Only mentioned by the cast on the DVD commentary, this is THE inn they all talk about. From what I could get from the staff, the name was changed shotly after the 1984 to the Red Lion Inn. Great location, but no hottub bacause of weight limits over the water, bummer.

Mikey's Dad's Museum
This scene was filmed at the Flavel House, 441 -8th Street, Astoria OR. It's pretty easy to find and right across the street from the county jail! Kinda makes you feel right in the movie.

Clatsop County Jail
732 Duane Street at 9th Street, Astoria, OR.
Another great location, you can read on the front door about it being used in the movie The Goonies. The new police station is right behind it, so you might not want to pour gas all over the parking lot to relive the scene!

Goonies
Goonies
Cannon Beach's Haystack Rock
That big land mark on Cannon beach, is all over the restaurant scene in the movie. Since it wasn't really there in the perspective through the dabloon, it might throw you off looking for the restaurant. The scene in the top left, really just had a light house out on the water. It was pretty funny.

Goonies
The Lighthouse Lounge
Located in Ecola State Park, we had a darn hard time finding it. of cource the building isn't there since it was constructed for the movie, also missing is all the debree surrounding the area. Like the wood the guys hid behind watching the Fertelli's bring out "the stiff". But there are still some items there spotted in the movie, like the old tree stump behind the ORV on the right, you can still see next to Ron in our photo! We would have shot more of this location but the battery ran out.

The Goonie House
The Goonies House is located at 368 -38th Street, Astoria, OR. This is the crown jewel of locations! It was surreal to stand in front of it. There is even a sign at the bottom of the hill telling Goonie fans it's okay to walk up the hill and look, but make sure you park at the bottom. You can take pictures and even do a "truffle shuffle" of your own, if you don't mind the old neighbor watching!

Goonies
Data's House
Right next door to the Goonie house, is the home of none other than Data! You can see the window he zipped out of and into the Walsh's screen door. On the right photo you can see Ron reenacting Data's sister yelling "I want my bike, I want my bike!". Good times.

Goonies
Ecola State Park
These were all shot further north in Ecola State Park. A funny thing about this shot, Mikey is lining up the restaurant, and Haystack Rock in the dabloon, but you can see the real Haystack Rock behind him in the fog, it's clearer next to Ron in the distance.

The Store
Located at the intersection of 37th Street and Highway 30 (Leif Erickson Drive). It's now known as the Astoria Coffee Roasting Company. To really appreciate this location you must watch the outtakes on the Goonies DVD. Most of the main characters where in the scene, and Chunk eating the ice cream is pretty funny. It would have been a bigger scene in the movie if they left it in, but after watching it you can see why they took it out. Interesting fact: You can still see the Lipton's logo above the front door!

Chunk's Bowling Alley
This was shot at a bowling alley in downtown Astoria, at the intersection of HWY 30 & 8th Street. The only way we found it was lining up the bridge in the background of the shot on the left. A great find! You can hear more about it in the video.

Goat Rock State Beach, CA.
Located just off Highway 1, south of Jenner in Sonoma County, CA. The film was shot pretty much in order of the scenes, the end of the movie takes us to CA., but it sure looked like Ecola State Park OR. There is a parking lot where you can stand and see most of where the movie was shot all around you. Some scenes don't line up like in the movie though. The bottom/left photo of the cops driving up and finding the Goonies emerging from One Eyed Willy's cave, those are actually on totally separate areas on the beach, it was pretty funny to see that.

Andy and Mikey Scene
When we were at Goat Rock State Beach I had an idea: "Wouldn't it be funny if I put myself in the film?". Not listening to Pat's voice of reason, I started the process. After 17 LONG hours of crappy green screening, frame by frame correction and late night hours of color perfecting, I finally saw my vision. I'm really glad I stuck with it because the final result is hilarious. My wife thought the kiss was pretty funny too!

Promo Photo
This photo wasn't in the movie, it was a promo shot taken outside the Goonies house, facing the bay. But when we were there, we couldn't help but snap a photo in the same spot.
