Astoria, Oregon to Host 25th Anniversary of THE GOONIES

FANS WILL GATHER FROM AROUND THE WORLD TO COMMEMORATE THIS CLASSIC MOVIE WITH A WEEKEND OF SPECIAL EVENTS ON LOCATION IN ASTORIA, OREGON, JUNE 4 THROUGH 7

ASTORIA, Ore., May 5, 2010 – This June 4 through 7, Astoria, Oregon will host a series of events in honor of the 25th anniversary of the filming of fan favorite, The Goonies.

Several of the original cast members will be in attendance during the four-day event including Corey Feldman who played “Mouth,”; Jeff Cohen, known for his role as the hilarious “Chunk;” Joe Pantoliano, the villainous “Francis Fratelli;” and Curt Hanson who portrayed “Mr. Perkins,” the richest man in Astoria.

The event will commence with a VIP dinner on Friday June 4, where stars will meet fans and sign autographs. After the dinner, there will be a red carpet screening of The Goonies along with a new fan-made documentary about the film. On Saturday and Sunday, in addition to regular showings of the film, fans will enjoy bus tours of original filming sites including an interior tour of the famous Goonies House. Sunday evening entails a Goonies-themed concert featuring Corey Feldman’s band Truth Movement, along with the alternative band The Ataris, bluegrass band The Whiskey Rebellion and the pop-punk band Troy’s Bucket.

As part of the 25th anniversary festivities, the new Oregon Film Museum will open its doors for the first time on Saturday, June 5. Converted from the old Clatsop County Jail featured in The Goonies, the museum is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the art and legacy of Oregon films and film-making. There will be many original artifacts from The Goonies on display from private collections.

Another of the weekend’s top highlights will include a special announcement from Warner Home Video, delivered by The Goonies cast members.

Additionally, Warner Bros. Consumer Products will be supporting “The Goon Docks,” a retro-retail pop-up shop, featuring an array of The Goonies merchandise that celebrates the 25th anniversary of the beloved 80s classic film. Fans from all over the world attending the series of events in Astoria, will have the opportunity to discover and own treasured, limited-edition products that bring to life The Goonies great advenutues.

“In 1985 when The Goonies was filmed we knew the movie would create a lasting impact in Astoria, and its legacy continues 25 years later,” stated Willis Van Dusen, Mayor of Astoria, Oregon. “This celebration is dedicated to the amazing Goonies fans and to the film itself, both of which have become an integral part of the cultural fabric of Astoria. It was a fun time to be in Astoria while the movie was being filmed and the enjoyment continues with each fan that visits.”

Richard Donner (SupermanThe Lethal Weapon series, Ladyhawke) directed The Goonies which was a Steven Spielberg (E.T., Jaws, Shindler’s List) presentation. Screenplay was by Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Harry Potter series, Mrs. Doubtfire) from a story by Spielberg. Donner produced with Harvey Bernhard (The Lost Boys) and Spielberg executive produced with Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy (Indiana Jones series, Back to the Future, Curious Case of Benjamin Button). It was originally released in theaters on June 7, 1985. Set in Astoria, Oregon, a group of kids band together hoping to save their homes from demolition, and embark on an adventure to find the buried treasure of a legendary pirate.
